VSE organized an international Vedanta conference from the perspective of Sri Ramakrishna, Chinmayananda and Dayananda Saraswati, and Native Spirituality.
Earlier in the year VSE facilitated a historic first gathering between the Hindu Society of Alberta and the Kohkam Ksewatiswin Society as part of an exploration circle of their common spiritual practices. They gathered their children around a sacred fire, watched Spirits, a video of a similar gathering in Winnipeg that shares the historical Canadian leg of Swami Vivekananda's journey through Canada in 1893. We listened to guest speaker, Bill Shead, Chairman of the Neeginan Centre in Winnipeg. He talked about their centre's relationship with the Hindu community. Afterwards we broke bannock and sipped tulsi tea. The consensus at the end of the exploratory was that we should repeat this again in a year. The event served as the inaugural Vedanta Society of Edmonton's Canada 150 celebrations. We can facilitate other group exploration circle and Spirits screenings. Contact Shreela at email@example.com
VSE joined Meetup.com and began programming regular lectures by swamis like Swami Tyagananda, and holding a class on Patanjali's Yoga Sutras, a Mother's Day themed screening and held its Annual General Meeting.
Edmonton based, metal sculptor, Roy Leadbeater, together with his wife Jean, was honoured for his work to create the original OM emblems at the Hindu Cultural Centre. VSE sponsored the screening of Jillian Elizabeth's Canadian premiere of her vedanta themed documentary, Gurukulam.
