Vedanta Society of Edmonton (BN119282861RR0001) was founded in 1985 as a non-profit, nationally registered charitable organization. The society was conceived under the leadership and guidance of the late Swami Bhashyananda of the Vivekananda Vedanta Society in Chicago inspired by the vision and message of universal harmony delivered by Swami Vivekananda. The Society has maintained a philosophical link with the Ramakrishna Mission in Belur Math, India, and the Toronto Vedanta Society. VSE engages in volunteering, study, retreats, international development, relief efforts, community sponsorship, and fundraising.
The mission of VSE is to support a process of self-inquiry and share ways to serve humanity.
Concepts like sadhana, meditation, yoga and contemplation illustrated in scriptures and inquiries help us connect more deeply with our own Self. Spiritual development and growth towards the universal truth helps us resonate collectively within our hearts.
We make it our daily task to recognize it and minimize ignorance and traps caused by relative truths that stand in the way of our ultimate divine potential.
As individuals, we create opportunities to get together as truth seekers desiring to fortify our practice of meditation and to consult with the monks of the Ramakrishna Mission, who are studied in sacred scriptures and service to humanity.
Sri Ramakrishna's Gospel is a very interesting starting place because it relates to our modern times. With very simple illustrations, he reveals the divine wisdom of his God realized soul. His advice is practical for any kind of person and yet he has the capacity to transmit spirituality to anyone and transform them from their lower consciousness to their highest state of pure consciousness.
Sri Ramakrishna exemplified in his life that all religions reach the same end. His experience of all religions led him to realize non-duality and inspired his principal disciple Swami Vivekananda to share it with the world.
Coming together as members of Vedanta Society of Edmonton, we engage in self-inquiry, spiritually uplifting activities and acts of service. It is our privilege to be able to come together in our collective spiritual journeys.
Our immediate solution to reducing stress and suffering is to undo mental obstacles of our own making, that stem from dualities created in our minds, and gradually replace it with intense and sincere seeking of irrefutable Truth.
Annual membership is available for a nominal fee of $5.
